26th Disability blog Carnival November 8, 2007

The 26th Disability Blog Carnival is here and the theme is "How do you relax or unwind?"

Many of us in the blogging community are extremely busy. We have commitments to our job, families, friends, school, etc. It's important to take time to relax and rejuvenate throughout our busy day. So how do we do that?

Some people relax with their favorite music or with friends. Others may enjoy a glass of wine in the evening or visiting their favorite watering hole. Still others enjoy reading and writing blogs or surfing the Internet. Each of us have our own unique way of relieving stress. Below is a compilation of ways to relax and unwind including some interesting blogs.

Bad Cripple presents Body Art: Braille Tattoo posted at Bad Cripple. He writes "some people relax through body modification." Check out his great blog and his upcoming book.

Reimer Reason presents Accommodations For All posted at Reimer Reason. She writes "Friday night was Mom's Night Out with the Chick Posse. We all have kids with Down syndrome and meet for dinner at a different restaurant on the last Friday of every month." She has a fantastic blog!

Emma Crees presents The Life and Times of Emma. She writes, I love comedy and I happily while away many an hour on you tube or similar watching comedy clips. Particularly at this time of year when sailing is out and the light is bad which really affects my mood. I was a regular at the weekly comedy club at uni and really need to get back into live comedy.

Disability Culture Watch presents Dancing In Their Seats posted at Disability Culture Watch. She is a great blogger and I really enjoy reading her work.

Also check out DISALIFE: Out of Closet posted at DISALIFE. Bruce writes I've read and participated in several stimulating discussions of identity lately. It's necessary to define ourselves, both for our own self awareness, and our sense of community. Having a disability, but allowing myself to ignore it, I was at a loss. What was wrong with me? Writing about disability, without consciously being aware of its effect on myself and those around me, I was lost. Where was I? In the closet, overcome by mothballs. Now I'm out of my closet and the fresh air smells wonderful.

Douglas Galbi presents 2007 Marine Corps Marathon on wheels posted at purple motes. I'm very grateful to all the Marines who serve and protect this country. Thanks for the great article Douglas!

Check out this medical students blog Perches in the Soul. She has a great blog and it's definitely worth stopping by.

Andrea has a nice post at Andrea's Buzzing About:
She writes "So last night the aspie kid, dad and I were sitting around the kitchen table, playing card games. We made a dent in some of the leftover Halloween candy, consumed a couple pots of tea, and generally had fun."

Check out lovestruck Joel blogging about Autistic Stereotypes .

Read David's blog Herbie is Born posted at Pretty Good Considering it is a great read.

Penny Richards and I have a lot in common, check out her blog Disability Studies, Temple University. How do you spend your free time?

Big noise tackle's a very serious subject at A Tale of Two Teens .

Maggie takes us through her knee diagnosis.

I just received a late addition from Ettina, please visit her blog for a very insightful post.

I wanted to thank everyone who made a submission, I really enjoyed reading each blog. Putting this Carnival together was a lot of fun and I am thankful for the experience. I hope each of you have a great day!

Well I'm pleased to leave the first comment because I feel bad about not getting it together in time to participate in your carnival.

Speaking of, I will say that reading these carnivals is a great way to relax. So thank you for providing the excuse I need to sit down and prop my feet up for a while! I look forward to doing so this evening (perhaps with glass of wine in hand)!

Unfortunately, neither Steve nor I could get it together this time either. I think it's because we're so busy planning an out-of-state move. It seems my short-term memory can't recall what it is I do to relax. At least blogging is a satisfying substitute.

I can tell you what I'd like to be doing right now to relax...I'd like to be feeling the sand between my toes on a beach in Jamaica! Ya mon.

Thanks Greg! This was a fun theme.

The next edition will be hosted in two weeks by Astrid at her blog:

The theme is 'transitions'--hmmm! It'll post on the same day as the US Thanksgiving holiday, so American readers will have to visit between football quarters and turkey dinners, I guess? (I dunno, I had salmon last Thanksgiving...)

I wasn't able to get a post together either this time. I look forward to reading all the posts. I have to agree - reading through the carnival posts is a great way to relax.
Thanks for a great job, Greg!

This is a great carnival, Greg and thanks for all your hard work on it. I'm sorry I wasn't able to submit a post this time - but delighted to see both old and new faces in the carnival (I love finding new blogs!)

Thanks again!

Thanks for putting this together. It's nice to unwind as I read about others unwinding!
