Officials: Obama to Leave Up to 50K Troops in Iraq Through 2011 - washingtonpost.com
I think 50,000 troops is a lot more than anyone expected to be left in Iraq. It seems some of the campaign promises Obama made are already changing. Was it because he did not fully understand the situation in Iraq? I certainly do not want 50,000 noncombat troops left in Iraq, bring our troops home like you promised. Concentrate on Afghanistan, it's time for Iraq to stand on its own 2 feet. Just my opinion....

I hope it's because that is what our military commanders are telling him needs to happen, and that the information is not something that a non-President would have had. I think it's a sign that he is flexible, and not rigid. And it's a risk, because he knows just like we do what his campaign promised.
I agree with you. 50,000 is a lot of troops to be still over there. I will be glad when they are all home. My daughter has a friend that has done 3 tours over there. I don't think I could handle my son being over there for 1 tour much less 3!
Christine,
I thought the same thing, but if thats the case we should all consider that canidates may not have all the facts when making speeches...
one nephew has done 3 tours and another is starting a second tour!
I've said all along that Bush, although maybe not the smartest man, he genuinely CARED about our troops. And I know that he would not have kept them over there if it wasn't a necessesity. President Obama may not have been privy to certain classified information while making campaign promises. And the public needs to take that into consideration before they crucify him. I didn't vote for Obama, but He's slowly winning me over. I've got family that is active duty USAF and I take a great pride in our military! Whether they are defending our freedom, or protecting the lives of those that can't currently protect themselves; they are providing a great service to this nation and for that we should salute them and be proud. And we should definitely let them know that those that have fallen did not do so in vain, but with bravery and honor for a noble cause!
Sorry Greg, Didn't mean to get on my soap box!! Go Pens and Go Wings!!!
