Finally some good news to talk about, security blue just called me to say that my appeal for my pressure relief mattress has been approved. after jumping through hoops and writing several letters, the insurance company has agreed to pay for this mattress. They will be contacting the durable Medical Equipment supplier today with the approval. Now let's see how long it takes to actually receive this mattress.
It makes financial sense for the insurance company to deny coverage. Most individuals simply give up and accept that decision. Being a quadriplegic I have learned not to accept no for an answer. This quest for a new mattress started on February 10, 2009. Hopefully this new mattress works out well and prevents skin breakdown.

YEA! Now maybe you can get some sleep. :)
Good on you for sticking with it Greg. Hope it doesn't take too much longer to arrive.
You know what? You're right; most people do give up. My husband was disabled and unable to do his job according to the job requirements set forth for 18 months. We applied for LTD. Denied. Appealed. Denied. Sought help from a disability insurance advocate consultant. I think that cost $3k. She knew the system, having worked in it for 20 years. Denied. She referred us to a lawyer who specializes in disability suits against the big cos. He accepted the case on a contingency. That was 2 years ago. We just heard from him and he thinks he can get it transferred to Massachusetts where the law is more favorably disposed towards the plaintiff. I'll keep you posted.
