Gardening Weekend

The weather in Pittsburgh yesterday was perfect to complete a little backyard gardening. Beth put in some basil, a cucumber and several pepper plants. I really enjoy gardening, watching things grow and harvesting delicious all natural food.

This year I'm also trying an upside down tomato plant. It's kind of a novelty, growing a tomato in a 5 gallon bucket, and hanging it upside down. I had a bucket and a drill so it was easy. The only issue I see is remembering to water the plant every other day and adding some miracle grow once a week.

I also put in two hummingbird feeders this year. Hopefully I will be able to post some pictures very soon. It's not exactly 40 acres of garden, more like several plants, herbs, berries and hanging baskets, but it makes me happy.

I've been hearing about the upside down tomato plants. Think it's a great idea. Can't wait to hear how yours grows and the quality of the tomatoes.

At least you are making an effort. Hats off to planting your own food. We are getting ready to lay in after vacation on the coast a herb and tomato garden. Did the Topsy/Turvy work for you? Let us know, thanks so much. Mal

my husband bought his mom those topsy-turvy planters that are advertised on tv so she could grow her tomatoes this year too. She also keeps a little garden...I think she's got peppers and strawberries with her tomatoes going....she also planted seeds for watermelon and pumpkins. I get the pumpkins in the fall for the seeds and carving! :)

Hope your garden is as successful as you would like!

I'll risk the birds but you know how I feel about spiders...
