I was surprised yesterday with an early birthday present, a new Kindle 2. I'm really quite impressed with this e-book reader. The first book I downloaded was Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol, for $9.99.
The Kindle 2 is surprisingly quadriplegic friendly and very thin, I am able to use my pencil in my brace to complete all of the navigation. The text to speech function is a little choppy but works out well... the speakers are loud and clear.
I plan on spending the day switching between actually reading and the text-to-speech function. I'm looking forward to learning all about my new toy...
Update: the text to speech was only on the trial version of the book, when I bought it the text to speech went away....

what a wonderful gift! and you can read whatever book you wish for price of a pricey paperback. does the text to speech function turn this into an audio book?
yes, but the text to speech does not work for all books, it's up to the publisher if it's turned on or off.
Cool gift Greg - when's your birthday?
Coincidentally, as we speak (well ok, blog), I am listening to the DaVinci Code on CD as I am painting. I read the book but have forgotten a lot. Do you like this one by Dan Brown? Never read any of his other works.
what a great gift! I've seen others with them, but when I looked at them online, I couldn't believe the price! I think I'll stick to reading the old fashioned way thanks.
Have you read Angels and Demons and the DaVinci Code yet by Dan Brown? Both VERY good books. Better than I expected them to be. Not sure what kind of books you like, but James Patterson books are ALWAYS a good read. The Alex Cross series and the Women's Murder Club series are my favs by him.
Greg- congrats on your new Kindle. I have the first version and love it. btw, here's a link to finding free books for Kindles:
