Eight years in Afghanistan

As of today we have been fighting in Afghanistan for eight years. I consider myself to be pro military but I have to question our tactics. It's as though we're trying to fight a sanitized war.

In my opinion, we have two options. Either totally withdraw from Afghanistan or make a commitment to all-out war. The powers that be are talking about adding an additional 40,000 troops or fighting the war with unmanned vehicles and special forces troops.... Both plans fall short in my opinion.

The United States has the ability to destroy large areas through airstrikes. Last week one of our outpost was attacked and eight soldiers lost their lives. Why was there anything left surrounding this outpost? I think it's naïve to fight this kind of war. Our enemy attacks and escapes, either pull out or unleash the fury of war.

I agree completely Greg. What's that old saying, Sh*t, or get off the pot, yeah, that one.

When I saw that article about the 8 soldiers, my heart dropped. The husband of a friend of mine is over there and everytime I hear of a casualty I get anxious until I hear that he's ok. I can't imagine what it's like for her. This is his third tour to the middle east since this war started. First tour was to Afghanistan, then to Iraq and now he's back in Afghanistan. He's due home next January and I'm praying that they don't extend his stay there.

I still say bomb the hell out of the place and turn it into Lake America. We can all use it as a destination vacation. :)

I wish I knew what I believe is right. I was totally against the war in Iraq for all the right reasons. However, there is so much and has been so much talk about Afghanistan for so long...it's a compelling situation. But, when I listen to soliders who've been over and back, with PTS, missing limbs, lives ruined, never mind all those who've died, I guess I'd just as soon bring everyone home, pull the plug and let them fight their own battles. We cannot and should not be the world's caretakers.
