WHEELIE cATHOLIC: Top Ten Things That Annoy People in Wheelchairs

WHEELIE cATHOLIC: Top Ten Things That Annoy People in Wheelchairs After spending 11 years in my power chair I can certainly sympathize with this top 10 list.... I would also like to add a few.
1. When speaking with a Person in a wheelchair for an extended period of time, try to get down to eye level with him or her. When I am forced to look up for an extended period of time talking with an able-bodied person it really bothers my neck.

2. If you are a waitress or waiter, do not ask the person I am with what I would like to order. I'm perfectly capable of ordering my own dinner, beverage etc. even though I use a wheelchair for mobility.

3. Please don't tell me everything happens for a reason and that God has a plan for me. I don't believe that God was sitting around one day and said "do you know who would be a good quadriplegic, Greg" let's sign him up for a power wheelchair.

4. Touching of any kind, if I don't consider you a friend respect my personal space. No shoulder touching, head rubbing leaning on my wheelchair using my foot rest as an ottoman.... respect my personal space.

5. Just treat me the same as anyone else. That being said I don't mind if you open the door for me, ask me if I need assistance or strike up a conversation with me....

Your list and those that your friend posted just boggle my mind to think that people actually act this way! I know common courtesy has been lost to a lot of people, but seriously? This is common sense!!! Geez!

Great List, Wheelie and Greg. I would add

Please don't avert your eyes when I say hello, throw coins at me or push my chair...

Lol Greg! I'm sorry, but no.3 made me chuckle. "....let's sign him up for a power wheelchair." :O) I don't think God was thinking that way either.... wait a minute, I'm a Pantheist, I don't believe in a God! lol Seriously, they are very good points.
