If you love good furniture makeovers, I'm sure you all know Kate from
Centsational Girl. In full disclosure, I believe I've been reading her blog the longest of any blog and she had a huge hand in me deciding to start refinishing furniture. Her photos are breathtaking and her style is amazing.
She blogged about a thrift store chair earlier this week and I fell in love instantly. You can read about it
here because I tried to copy the picture and I didn't get it to work.
I'm not going to say I put a lot of thought into how I redid this chair because I flat out copied Kate's chair. But I have heard that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and I hope she takes it that way. Here is the before, I had already taken off the nasty seat cover as my father-in-law needed to build a new support in the seat.
I did do a few things differently.
Kate brush painted her chair. I sprayed it with Krylon Peekaboo blue.
She used actual gold leaf and I used Rub n Buff in gold and then Krylon's touch up pen. I used the pen over the rub-n-buff because it lightened it up and made it brighter.
She chose a blue fabric and I went with an off white with gold tones.

I think my point and shoot camera is dying...it's blurry 24/7. I found it at a garage sale. The owner dropped the price by 50% without me asking...I think she knew I really wanted it and wasn't going to take it for her original price. I used Zinsser Cover Stain oil-based primer on this one because the original finish was so smooth. I don't love oil based product because of the clean up, but they sure do wear well. Then I used an oops paint labeled as BM Horizon Gray. I waxed with Fiddes in Stripped Pine and used gold Rub-n-Buff on the pulls. I'm really happy with the end result! Frenchy goodness! 
In other news, I'm NOT loving Blogger's new updates. It took me a lot longer to write this post than normal and even though I wrote in paragraphs, it's all one huge paragraph above. What gives? Any tips? ~Allison
